Michael Mateas

Michael Mateas' work is in AI-based art and entertainment. He is a faculty member in the Computational Media department at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Computational Media is a new department in which he served as the founding chair; prior to this he was a faculty member in Computer Science. Michael's research group, the Expressive Intelligence Studio, has ongoing projects in autonomous characters, interactive storytelling, game design support systems, AI models of creativity, and automated game generation. His prior work in interactive storytelling includes the interactive drama Facade and the social simulation game Prom Week. Michael received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University.
